The do’s and don’ts of working near the pipeline

We’re here to help. If you’re planning to work anywhere near the pipeline please call BPA free and we will come and locate the pipeline, provide advice and ensure your safety. If you do need to work near the pipeline, please follow these simple do’s and don’ts:

Do…

  • Be observant and report any suspicious activities taking place near to pipelines.
  • Contact BPA in advance of any work in the vicinity of the pipeline
  • Tell BPA if the line is not clearly marked or you are unsure
  • Arrange for a free site meeting in advance of the work
  • Give BPA 7 day’s notice to arrange supervision
  • Tell all contractors and staff about the pipeline
  • Work closely with BPA to ensure work can be completed in total safety
  • Call BPA for FREE on 0800 585 387 if you are unsure

Don’t…

  • Assume all will be okay digging or drilling near to pipelines
  • Clean out ditches with mechanical diggers before consulting us
  • Use any heavy machinery in close proximity to the pipeline without consulting us first
  • Erect fencing across the pipeline without consulting us first
  • Install or repair land drainage networks without letting us know
  • Carry out any excavation works near to the pipeline without first contacting BPA

DO NOT UNDERTAKE ANY DIGGING, EXCAVATION, FENCING, DITCHING, MOLE PLOUGHING OR LAND DRAINAGE WITHIN 50M OF THE PIPELINE WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORISATION FROM BPA.
